Did you know there's a secret developer menu in Qlik Sense? I'm going to let you in on the secret and show you how to access it and what it contains. Just remember, this isn't documented or officially supported, and is subject to change in the future.

To access the developer menu, follow the steps below:

  1. Open a sheet in a Qlik Sense app in your browser
  2. Add /options/developer to the url
  3. Right click on an object and choose "Developer"

You can get the object id, properties, and layout of any object this way. There's also a link to open the object in single configurator, and test exporting. The object id's are useful for embedding visualizations. The properties are useful if you are creating your own objects and want to check the properties of an object in a Qlik Sense app for reference. In my opinion this is the most useful feature of the developer menu. Sometimes if I don't know the correct properties to set to achieve what I want I'll create a similar object in the Qlik Sense client just to check the properties. The layout shows what is returned by the engine for the layout of the object, and can be useful to see what the layout will look like before you actually create an object yourself. And the single configurator link is a handy way to get to the single configurator of an object directly from a sheet.

And now you know about the secret developer menu.

In the June '19 the embedding of objects is build in, so you no longer need this secret dev functionality.

Still works for me (tested June 2019)

Note that you can only use the /options/developer when you are not editing a sheet

Hey,

it was working fine for me yesterday, republish my app this morning and now when I add /options/developer at the end of the link, it reload the page but the developer menu is not here.

It happens once in the past, I closed my browser and reopened it and it was resolved but it doesn't do the trick this time.

Any advice of why it is not working ? Do I need ownership of the app or should the app be close by everyone else ? Kind of stuck here so every advice is welcome 🙂

EDIT: I use Firefox and QlikSense Nov '19 Patch 4

Cheers,

Leo

Is this developer option will be visible base on any security role or user access level.

Hello,

I don't have that option. Tried using Chrome, Edge and still nothing. I do have a professional license. Do you have any other suggestion how to access it? Thanks!

For those who can't get the Developer menu to show up, check that TOUCH SCREEN mode is OFF. The hidden menu will not appear if that is on.  To find it, go to the hub, click on the hamburger in the top left corner, which looks like several horizontal lines.  Under that menu there is an item called "Touch screen mode". Turn it off and the developer menu should now be a choice regardless of which browser.
