Take a look at Qlik Sense June 2017

excited.png

Hey guys! - I'm very excited to introduce you to our latest release of Qlik Sense, June 2017. Yep - no version number or dots in this naming convention. With the announcement of our continuous release process discussed here, Qlik will begin releasing Qlik Sense every 10 weeks!  Since each release will be similar in scope, we are also replacing our number-based naming convention with releases identified by the month and year they were distributed.  This means that instead of Qlik Sense 4.0, our June release is simply called Qlik Sense June 2017.  (Most other Qlik products will also follow a similar cadence going forward as well.)

Currently customers and partners are invited to Join the Technical Preview and can get the latest software here. If you are not a customer or partner, our freemium product, Qlik Sense Desktop - will be available later in the month (UPDATE: available NOW here: Download Free Data Visualization Development Platform - don't forget you can always experience newer features before the software is available (such as the new data preparation features) without downloading any software by registering with Qlik Sense Cloud, thanks to our continuous release process.

There is so much goodness in this release that I don't want to create a giant text wall telling you about it. I created a brief summary video for your enjoyment as well as longer videos detailing and demonstrating the new features. You can view them at the video index below which include video files and samples. Please note that additional information on our Advanced Analytics integration is available in this community group Advanced Analytics Extensions and requires permission. Please send an email to mailto:insight@qlik.com to gain access. I am in the middle of working on a brief summary and "Hello World"-type video to demonstrate its concepts.

We want to hear from you, so please your comments and questions below!

Qlik Sense June 2017 - Highlights

The main video index for the Qlik Sense June 2017 Release and video .mp4 files and samples can be found here: Qlik Sense June 2017 - What's New

NOTE: To increase resolution or size of the video, select the YouTube logo at the bottom right of the player. You will be brought directly to YouTube where you can increase the resolution and size of the player window. Look for the 'settings' gears icon in the lower right of the player once at YouTube.

Just watching your new viz's vid - they look interesting.

Now going to download this new version to my laptop and give them a go.

The Out Of the Box viz's had room for improvement and this is certainly a good step in a good direction.  Hopefully more viz's and viz improvements will arrive every 10 weeks.

Hi Mike,

Waiting for such features in Qlik, I would like to recommend for some more themes for the application,

as of now in 3.2 version there are only two themes

Michael,

If one deployed this new version and came across a showstopper issue is there a recommended method of reverting back to a previous version whilst maintaining the integrity of one's qvf's etc.... ?

The reason why I ask is that on my upgraded Qlik Sense Desktop the extension sense-variable-slider Qlik Branch appears to have a css clash in this new version.  Fortunately not a major problem for me as I was only looking at the extension and not using it in vengeance.  Also I have only installed this new version on my laptop and no servers - so no panic  But it would be good to know the recommended version reversion method for a just in case scenario.

Hi Mike,

I'd recommend to implement this feature

it would be very useful for deploying multilanguage apps.

I'd suggest you also to improve table export to pdf

I had not time to check it on QMC till now but regarding the functionality to promote a sheet from community to base sheet (approved), is it been added as new feature on June 2017 version?

‌HI Mike

THank you for keep us info of the new feature , I hope in future off line mobile app can be support for Qlik Sense free version.

Also It there a way to check will the custom report from climber will work with this new release ? Before I go ahead to install new version. As now I rely on custom rep extension a lot.

Were there API updates along with this release? Is there documentation on that anywhere? The publicly available API guide is still on 3.2...

Hi everyone,

I have some remarks,

The integration with R is so complex !
Generate certificates

build and rebuild a .net project

run SSE.exe

run R and its libraries..

Will this integration be more direct in the actual release?

Another thing; sometimes, the x-axis just disepear (even though the chart is big enough to have it shown). Please take a look at this.

Yet another question, what does the fractionning do in the data modeling? sometimes Qlik propose a fractionning option on a table while I'm loading it and I can't seem to be able to do a thing !

Can you explain this feature?

Thank you,

Omar

Hello Omar - this is not the case - technically it is way much easier than this:

  • Install supported version of Qlik Sense Enterprise Server / Desktop
  • Install R / Python and appropriate libraries  etc.
  • Configure Advanced Analytics server settings using the QMC
  • Start R / Python
  • Start Advanced Analytics Connector (.exe)
  • Create Qlik Sense Apps - with appropriate script reference to R / Python

I will allow abm‌ and / or cls to possibly elaborate

Hi Jefferey - the product is not GA yet - just the technical preview is available at the moment - I believe it will go GA later this month and that is when all the doc will be updated. I believe there have been some API updates - but only the release notes will have that information.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for doing a great job at keeping us updated.  I saw you had mentioned  above that you believe it will go GA later this month.  Is there a risk the release could push in to July?  I have a few teams in my company that are eager for the latest release.  Would like to properly set their expectations on when we can deliver it to them.

Hi Mike,

Even if it is possible right now to create Waterfall charts (I have created mine already), this is a most wanted chart for financial people in the company I work for. Right now it is an artisan's work to create them. I was expecting this chart for this release , I only hope Qlik Sense can get them soon.
I would have preferred the Waterfall instead of the Histogram.Histograms -as your videos show- can be created easily with bar charts. Anyway... That is my comment.
BTW, I love the enhanced upgrade to the colour management. When does the font management come?
Cheers,

Demian

Hi Thomas - as it stands not - we are on target last I heard. I believe the only thing that might change is the Qlik Sense Offline Mobile app might be available later in July vs originally with the June 2017 release.

Hi Demian - thanks for your comment - I will check with our visualization officer plu‌ to see what he has to say about Waterfall charts. Font management is something that may be handled with our new theme capability - Patrik might also be able to add some color to this (ha! pun intended).

Waterfall is most likely soon, very soon

As a user of waterfall, what are your expectations on it? Feel free to drop me a mail at plu@qlik.com and I'll make sure to check it with our requirements so we haven't missed anything.

Font depends on if it's font size or type. Size will come before type as we need to handle how to specify what to do when the font is missing.

Hi Michael,

Does this mean we can expect the drop this week? We're running out of June in a hurry!

Thanks for all of your great work!

Hi Michael,

Just one small thing. Does the new version of Qlik Sense allow Copy/Paste? When you right click on a value either in a table or chart, Qlikview lets you copy the value, but Qlik sense doesn't have that.

Thank you!

Hi Yifan - not at this time - currently you can copy and paste objects on the canvas but not individual cells.

Thanks Michael! That's a bummer! Our sales rep said it might be available in the new release so we were all hoping for it.. It would really make the user experience better, are you guys planning on adding this feature any time soon?

And we still won't be able to select colors for chart per measure?
Dimension coloring sounded promising but it is stilled locked into the master items.
Very limited capabilities to handle colors directly in graphs and tables without heavy use of master items.
