Filter a report with two connections

I have an Excel report. It has a field named "OrgAbbr" which is the organization ID. Every recipient of the report is linked to one value of OrgAbbr, and every recipient has a filter that is hardcoded to his/her value of OrgAbbr (for example, Jsmith has the filter: OrgAbbr=CHCB). I use OrgAbbr as a page in the report; as a result, each recipient gets only the Excel tab for his/her organization. (Jsmith gets only CHCB's data.)

I added a second connection from another Qlik Sense app. It too has a field named OrgAbbr in it, and I want to again show only the data for the recipient's organization. But when I run the report, all data is showing up from the 2nd connection.

If I add a page using the 2nd connection's OrgAbbr, the Excel report gets a tab for every value of OrgAbbr. (On each tab, the data is limited to each OrgAbbr, which is good, but every recipient gets all of the tabs, which is bad.)

Is there a way to make this work with two connections? Or do I need to alter one of my Sense apps to contain all of the data I need and use just that one app?

The property of LinkedFields does not exist in NPrinting 17+ so what you are trying to do is practically impossible to do at the moment.

Now - you need to remember that filters are connection specific, so the fact that the field has the same name in one and another connection does not mean that the filter will be applied to both connections. In other word you need to create second filter to apply selection on the second connection

Hi @Lauri

First of all

1. Ensure that you are not violating any connection rules:

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/June2019/Content/NPrinting/GettingStarted/HowCreateConnections...

  • You can have multiple NP connections - within a single NPrinting app - to multiple, unique Qlik Sense apps.
  • NPrinting Connections are not shared/usable between NPrinting apps. If you want to connect the same Qlik Sense app to multiple Qlik NPrinting apps you must create a NPrinting connection for each NPrinting app.
  • You can only create one connection between a Qlik Sense app and a Qlik NPrinting app.

2. Filters

In  a nutshell, if you have followed NP app/connection rules as well as filter rules but have also named your filters so you can recognize exactly which NP App/Connection that they came from, the filter should work as expected.

  • I think you simply may have taken an NP filter from the wrong NP App/NP connection
  • The filter must come from the right NP App/connection/report connection in order for the correct filter to be applied.

Hope this makes sense.

Kind regards...

Thanks for the assistance and clarification. I will modify my primary Sense app to include all of the data I want to display in the NPrinting report.
