Santha -

It is correct that to open the designer you do not need to have NPrinting Server or Engine installed on that machine. What you will need to do is open the NPrinting web console (https://yourservername:4993) from your local machine and then there is a button to launch the designer (Edit Template) from the Reports section.

Note that the security role assigned to your user profile must have permission to create and edit reports in order to access the button that opens designer.

The designer can not be run as a stand-alone product and can only be opened from inside the web console.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the response.

Just one thing,when you say

"you will need to do is open the NPrinting web console (https://yourservername:4993) from your local machine".

You mean that my local system host name right. In other words https://localhost:4993 or https://hostname:4993 ?

Hi Santha,

You will need to enter the hostname or IP address of the machine where NPrinting Server is installed.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for helping in.

So you are saying that:

1) NPrinting designer requires the server and engine to be installed in different system ?

2) To access the designing interface of NPrinting i have to access the server first which is present in a different system (QlikServer)?

3) Multiple clients with NPrinting designer installed can access the Nprinting designer interface with single Nprinting server installed in a different system (QlikServer) ?

Hi Santha,

1) Not necessarily. They can each be on different boxes (Server, Engine & Designer) or all 3 can be installed on the same box, or any combination. Check the Architecture and Installation instructions here: Deploying Qlik NPrinting ‒ Qlik NPrinting

2) You must first access the server console - yes. However, NPrinting server can be on a different machine (so you will access it using that machine's hostname or IP address) or on the same machine as the one Designer is installed on (in which case you can of course use localhost instead of the hostname or IP address). You must have Designer installed on the machine you want to create reports on

3) Yes. You must open up Designer (which is a Windows application) from within the Server console (which is a Web application) - it cannot be opened by running the executable file (NPrintingDesigner.exe) directly. If you try you will get this error message:

Hi, so if the server is not available we are not able to create Reports even with Designer installed on my own machine???

Hi Emmanuelle,

Yes that is correct. You need Designer to author reports but they are stored in a repository that is part of Server.

Thank you Daniel, is there any Designer documentation help to check it out?
