Migrate NPrinting to a New Server

Hi all,

I'm trying to migrate NPrinting to a new server after upgrading to the latest version (both servers).  Ideally I don't want to have to rebuild everything from scratch so, as I've seen suggested on Community, I've backed up the reository and restored it on the new server.  The process gave the message to say restore was successful (though there were some error lines whilst it was running).

Now I go to log in and I only get the windows log in option.  Any credentials I use from when I initially set up NPrinting on the new server (e.g. the service account) fail, as does the admin AD log in credentials from the old server.  The old server used an AD, and I'm wondering if that is part of the problem.  The new server does not use AD.

Does anyone have any experience of migrating NPrinting from one server to another that can offer any advice?  Should I have removed the AD users from the old server and used a standard/manual user account?  There is nothing in the Qlik Help documentstion to assist with NPrinting migrations.

Daniel's suggestion did allow me to access authorisation via NPrinting rather than windows.

The login didn't work but Qlik support did offer to fix the repository.

Hi,

You updated to February 2018?

There was a know bug on older versions so, sometimes, the generated backups have the users table empty. As result you are not able to login in the restored server.

The issue is solved starting from February 2018. You must update both servers and recreate the backup.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Hi Ruggero,

Thanks for your reply.  I was aware of that issue and therefore updated to the latest version before I backed everything up.  Any other ideas?

Kind regards,

Michael

Hi,

Some ideas:

1) Be sure that both installations are February 2018 and try to repeat the process of backuping and restoring on the new computer.

2) If possible open a support ticket and send us the backup file. We will restore and check it in. The backup file doesn't have your company data, only the reporting structure and templates. You can unzip it to check the content.

3) You can connect via PgAdmin to the Repository of the new server and check the content of the tables like USR. It must contains a row for each user, at least one row for the administrator.

4) Check the full restore logs are stored on %ProgramData%\NPrinting\Logs\nprinting_manager.log

In my opinion the best solution is to test point 1 and if it doesn't work  open a support ticket so a skilled support person will help you.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Thanks.  I've done just that.  I could use PgAdmin to do some checks but it'll be slow compared to someone who already knows their way around the NPrinting repositories.  If I get an answer I'll post it on here for others.
