NPrinting OnDemand Error: Failed to get data from external source

We recently upgraded to NPrinting Nov 17 and utilize the OnDemand extension for report xls and pdf generation. However I now receive an error when i try to choose an app when setting up the NPrinting Connection.

Server Connection entered (and double checked)

Select app > no values to select from > error message 'Failed to get data from external source'

Any ideas? The preview function in NPrinting Template Editor works as expected.

thanks

Stewart
