NPrinting engine & designer

Hello,

I am new to NPrinting & just in the phase of installing NPrinting server. Can someone please let me know what is NPriniting engine & designer & is it mandatory to be installed for NPrinting to work?

I will be using NPrinting with Qlikview & my purpose is to send out excel reports using NPrinting.

yes they are mandatory

Nprinting engine is the service that does all the work behind the scene, creating the reports ,running the task etc.

usually you install it on the same server as the Nprinting server , it's a separate installation because you can have multi engine connected to one server so you'll be able to scale if needed.

Nprinitng Desginer - is a must for designing the reports , you need to install it on every developer computer

it opens automatically from the nprinting management console

No, the engine license is all you need. For the designers, you simply assign them a security role in NPrinting that allows them to create/edit templates and have the designer client installed locally on their machines.

From there, the designer is launched directly from the web console.

I didn't phrase my question correctly. I have server license, do I need separate engine license? or the server license will suffice?

Hi Neha,

Just the Server license is all you need. The license itself may have a restriction on the number of engines you can connect and the number of users who can be allocated the Developer Role. However, you don't need separate licenses for the Engine & Designer.

NPrinting Designer: This is the platform/ IDE where  you can build your Reports in HTML, PPT, EXCEL etc format.

NPrinting Engine: This component is responsible for task reloading , scheduling of NPrinting JOBs.
