NPrinting less than filter to select a range of months

It is now July - month 7 and I want to select Jan to June, using a filter

=KPIMonth<7 works great, but I need this to be dynamic so I tried

=KPIMonth<Month(Today())

This creates an invalid result

Can anyone help?
