Need advise on upgrading 16.9 NPrinting to a suitable version (due to 12.1 to 12.4 QV upgrade), so that rewrite of NPrinting is not needed.

We currently are on QlikView 12.1 with NPrinting 16.9. We intend to upgrade to QlikView 12.4. As per the inputs received we understand that version 16.x is not supported and will need to upgrade it too.

Looking for advise on what version we can upgrade NPrinting to, such that we may be able to use the current NPrinting 16.9 jobs without needing any changes or very minor changes. We aren't in a situation to undertake a re-write of NPrinting and hence looking for a solution, migration approach that can help us.

Appreciate your suggestions on this...

Hi,

I suggest you to start by reading carefully the Migration part of the help site https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2021/Content/NPrinting/Migrate/Migrating.htm . Read also the migration playbook at https://community.qlik.com/t5/Qlik-NPrinting-Documents/QlikView-NPrinting-16-Migration-Playbook-A-re... and the other conversations in this community.

The official documentation already covers the topic. I suggest you to create a May 2021 sandbox and do migration tests there so you could estimate the efforts of your specific migration.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Hi,

NPrinting 16 is not supported anymore so regardles of the version we suggest there will be still some rewrite required! There is no more NPrinting 16 track supported and NPrinting 17+ track (currently May 2021) is totaly different tool.

You should have planned for upgrade 4 years ago when Qlik announced that v16 will no longer be supported.

So now the best you can do is to migrate (not upgrade!!!) to May 2021. Amount of rework required will be dependent on probably 100+ factors which I will not be able to list here without looking at your NP16 reports. Every detail in your reports may need consideration so yeah - there is a lot!

My intention is not to scare you, but to make you realise that the sooner you start migrating the faster you will realise that there are differences and you have no option but to deal with or simply stay on old versions of QlikView and NPrinting.

Sorry, but that is the bruthal truth!

Side note: For new NPrinting setup I would suggest you contact someone who is experienced with the tool and who will estimate how much rework will be required.

cheers Lech, When applicable please mark the correct/appropriate replies as "solution" (you can mark up to 3 "solutions". Please LIKE threads if the provided solution is helpful to the problem.

Lech thanks for your response. I gather migration is the only way forward. Will plan and undertake a test migration through the migration tool to gauge the fixes and efforts it will need. Thanks for the inputs....

Ruggero, thanks for sharing the links. Have been reading posts related to migration and the tool. Yes, we intend to create a sandbox and test out the migration to get an idea of the efforts that will be needed for the migration exercise. Thanks much for the inputs. Appreciate it.
