Nprinting Sep 18 Upgrade issue after Restore

HI All,

I have upgraded Qlik Nprinting from February 18 version to September 18 version. For this is followed the following steps:

1. Creating Backup

2.Installing Nprinting Server

3.Installing Nprinting Engine

4.Installing Nprinting Designer

5.Restoring the backup.

After restoring when I try to start my services, everything but Scheduler service is running. I manually try to restart but does not help.

Kindly suggest some solution to this issue. rpc

Yes

the purpose of the backup is that you can always revert back if your upgrade fails. In such case you install NPrinting from scratch using version used when doing backup, and restore backup on it.

Upgrade needs to be done using those steps:

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/June2018/Content/DeployingQVNprinting/Upgrading-Qlik-NPrinting...

and here

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/June2018/Content/DeployingQVNprinting/Qlik-NPrinting-installat...

You basicly install new version of NPrinitng on top of existing one. This will perform upgrade and repository upgrade too. After that you don't restore repository from backup as backup was only done for downgrade & restore situation!

cheers

I created a backup in NPrinting February 18 and restoring it in Nprinting September 18.

But if I can restore the backup in same version, how will I do the upgrade without  losing the data?

ok then....

i suggest first you go to help.qlik.com and read the procedure on how to upgrade NPrinitng environment.

https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/June2018/Content/DeployingQVNprinting/Backup-restore.htm

Backup and restore Qlik NPrinting

To ensure that your Qlik NPrinting deployment can be recovered in the event of a system failure or when a node in your deployment needs to be moved or replaced, we recommend that you create regular backups. These backups are used to restore your Qlik NPrinting deployment when needed.

When you create a backup of your Qlik NPrinting deployment, the key component that you are backing up is the Qlik NPrinting repository. For more information, see Architecture.

A Qlik NPrinting backup can only be restored to an installation of the exact same version of Qlik NPrinting becauseQlik NPrinting repository structures may differ between versions of Qlik NPrinting.

If you want to upgrade and migrate your data between versions of Qlik NPrinting, you must follow the instructions for upgrading. For more information, see Upgrading Qlik NPrinting.

Qlik NPrinting is delivered with a utility, Qlik.Nprinting.Manager.exe, that is used to create backups and restore deployments. The Qlik.NPrinting.Manager.exe file is installed by default, and is located in %Program Files%\NPrintingServer\Tools\Manager. This tool is a console application and must be executed from a command prompt. The resulting backup contains a Qlik NPrinting repository database dump file, and related files in a .zip archive.

In short:

to upgrade - you just upgrade whole environment with repository to new version - this also updates repository features.

Hi Lech,

I followed the same procedure that is mentioned on Qlik-help for Upgrading environment.

I created the backup using Qlik Nprinting Manager tool through Command Prompt.

I dont know what I am doing wrong, but tell me if I reinstall the older version , will I be able to restore the data?
