Qlik NPrinting Scenario - PDF Report

Hi All,

Clarification and Suggestions required for the below Qlik NPrinting requirement.

Having two different data models in single QlikView application. Even though its independent data model, some of the filters and dimension columns names displayed are same in QlikView front end. With the same QlikView application we have a requirement to generate PDF report with both the data model fields and charts.

Example:

Having two fields namely Region1(from 1st data model) and Region2(from 2nd data model), in QlikView front end it is displayed as “Region” (commonly) in two different tabs/sheets.

In NPrinting, need to generate and distribute the PDF report by enabling cycle based on Region field with QlikView objects from both the tabs/sheets.

So the number of reports generated is 49 as we have 7 values listed in each Region columns, but the expected number of reports is only 7 as the values listed in each Region is one and the same.

Note: As number of reports generated is 49 with more than 2000+ pages, there comes a space issue and other report maintainability concerns.

So, request you to let me know if there is any similar scenario faced and any solutions to be tried from our end. Thanks

Regards,

Padma

Hi,

When you start a conversation please remember to always specif the version of Qlik NPrinting you are using; 16.* are very different than 17+.

Having two data models in the same .QVW is an unusual situation. In my opinion it would be better to merge them in a single model.

In any case:

- with 16.* you should try to use Linked Fields. They are designed to connect correspondent fields from different connections and I never tested them when connecting two different fields from the same .qvw (=the same connection). So try to create a Linked Field, insert the two Region fields and create a cycle by using the Linked Field and remove the single Region field.

- with 17+ at the moment (September 2018) Linked Fields are not supported so you can cycle only by an existing field. The only solution is to merge the two models in a single one in order to have a single field Region and use it to cycle.

If you have two fields and create a cycle only with one the data set will not be filtered by the second one.

Best Regards,

Ruggero

Thank you Ruggero for your response.

Yes, missed to mention the version, NPrinting version- 17+.

Based on the requirement and database tables availability team have come up with two different data models in single QVW app. Merging into single data model is in process now, meantime I would like to know if there is any other workaround to handle the scenario. Thanks.

For NPrinitng purpose (as best practice is to have separate application) i would link models on the "Region" field and cycle through it.
