Hey guys,
Sometimes when I open a report and try and open the editing of the template (either a new template or edit existing) I get a large gray box where the input window is for Excel or Word.
See picture below:
Does anyone know what triggers this??
If you open the applciation that you are using for the template (Word or Excel) do you get the gray background as well?
also, what version of office are you running
have you had this issue with other nprinting reports you have created
Hi Adam.
First of all thanks for the reply
1) No I don't get it when I open a regular word or office instance.
2) It is the latest, but the thing is it only happens sometimes, then I will try and save the .NSQ, close nPrinting and voila it works. What I am trying to understand is what triggers it so that I know for when I demo / or create reports, but so far I am actually not sure.
Best,
Ali
Hello,
This can happen when you have a QVW that is resource intensive (large qvw 250 mb or more with complex expression calculation) thus taking more time to open in conjunction with opening the template editor.
To avoid this, you can open the QVW that NPrinting will use as a source connection. Allow it to open fully. Then open the template editor.
If it's not the QVW that is the issue, then it could be a number of other problems including the computer's system resources in which NPrinting and the QV desktop is installed.
When developing...try to keep other unnecessary programs closed to maximize the resources for use with NPrinting reporting. NPrinting only uses 1 gig of ram but it connects to the QV desktop to process reports. Therefore your system needs to have plenty of resources to be able to open the QVW you are working with.
If you feel that the above does not address your specific issue, please contact the Qlik Support Desk at Technical Product Support | Qlik to report any technical concerns that you might have with NPrinting.
I've faced this issue a number of times and what worked for me when the greyed out area appears when trying to edit an Excel template is to insert a new table into the template and then the report renders again! You can then delete the inserted table, save your template and all should be good.
hi @paulaoshea
you commented on 6 years old topic which is not relevant anymore. Did you have similar issue happening to you in the more recent versions of NPrinting?
If you did - feel free to start new topic, link this one in it, provide versions of software affected and we will take it from there - cheers.
Hi,
This post is related to QlikView NPrinting 16 (based on the screenshot) that is no more supported. Please avoid to comment so old conversations. If you have a similar problem please open a new conversation with the correct version you are using and all the details to let us to reproduce it.
If you are still using QlikView NPrinting 16 please plan a migration to latest version as soon as possible. Refer to https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2021/Content/NPrinting/Migrate/Migrating.htm

I commented on a six year old topic in case it was still an issue for someone, as it was for me.
This topic was the first that came up in a search engine for the issues.
