basic questions with much needed clarifying

Hi all. My questions will be a piece of cake for you.

I have a  qlik sense app (165 mb) with fields id, field2, field3. I made a connection with nprinting, then created an app in n printing, a filter for field2 for values value1_field2, value2_field2 which i applied to the app. Then I created an excel report, with level field3 for a table that existed in the qlik sense app.

1) First of all, preview is taking ages and most of the times crashes with error : "The preview request  is taking more than 120 minutes. Hint: Use a task to run this report".  I don't know what to assume. Is it the size of the qlik sense app?

2) Secondly, I don't understand what the app filters do. All I think i know, is that they don't work the same way as in the qlik sense apps at all. Then what do they do?

3) I want to cycle this report. I know the cycle products are a zip file with pdfs.  The cycle field is a 100 hospitals. I want to be able to connect each hospital to its e-mal and use this as the user group /recipients. Is that too complex?

Thank you in advance! Your help will for sure be eye-opening.

Hi,

I suggest you to start by reading the official Qlik NPrinting help site https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2021/Content/NPrinting/Introduction/Introduction.htm in particular the Getting Started chapter at https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2021/Content/NPrinting/Introduction/Get-started.htm

1) If you added field3 as a level it will create a different table for each distinct value of the filed3. If the amount of distinct values of field3 is huge the report creation could take a very long time.

2) To understand how filters work start from https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2021/Content/NPrinting/ReportsDevelopment/Static-dynamic-fi...

3) You use cycles when you want to create a disting file for each combination of the fields inserted in the cycle https://help.qlik.com/en-US/nprinting/May2021/Content/NPrinting/ReportsDevelopment/Cycling-your-repo.... I think instead you want to send a filtered report to a set of recipients (hospitals). In this case you have to create a user for each hospital (manually or imported), create the related filters and associate the filters to each user. Then create a publish task, add the report and the users and schedule it.

Ruggero
