QlikView fans, we understand you’ve been eagerly awaiting the new release… so, we are proud to announce the general availability of QlikView November 2018. This release includes enhancements designed to improve visualizations, global support and performance.

One of the most notable improvements to QlikView for November 2018 is the Skia graphics library, replacing the outdated GDI+ library to help support QlikView longevity. With the Skia library, a wide variety of all graphic types are made available via common APIs that work across a various hardware and software platforms for ease of implementation. And, following limited beta testing, many customers reported improved visualizations resulting from the new Skia library.

International Components for Unicode (ICU) libraries have also been implemented with the November 2018 release. This set of Java and C/C++ libraries supports your globalization goals and provides more consistent application behavior across different platforms and regions through enhanced support for non-English characters, sorting of numeric strings, SET variable formatting, and more.

Additionally, we’ve added two new log files, which can be enabled quickly and easily. The Engine Log File validates performance levels and determines where, how and why inefficiencies are occurring within your application. And, the Reload Performance Log can identify which documents in your application are consuming the most resources. One of our beta testers, a customer from a healthcare organization said, "I am impressed with the set of new logs, Engine Log and Performance Log, in QMC to monitor memory and CPU usage down to the object level. In turn, this will help improve overall application and server performance."

The "File Exists" task is an interesting enhancement to QlikView Publisher. As a supporting task, File Exists can trigger a follow-on task to the creation of a file in your environment. This is especially helpful when files are created at irregular times within your system.

The QlikView November 2018 release includes several other updates, in addition to these highlights. This new video provides a summary of all the updates, and check out the release notes for further details.

Downloaded. Immediately crashes when opened. When opened in compatibility mode, does not crash but is extremely slow to render the welcome screen (5+ seconds to fully render). Any attempt to do anything within, e.g. help/about, causes the application to freeze while using up 100% of a CPU core.

When switching back to QlikView from another window, does not render at all.

A full uninstall and reinstall appears to have resolved some of these issues, but:

* screen rendering when switching back to the QlikView Desktop window is still extremely slow (5+ seconds before menus are rendered)

* Rendering the Welcome screen when opening QV Desktop still takes a long time - upwards of 15 seconds before the Recents list is populated

* Switching back to the Welcome screen causes the entire application to freeze for 15-30 seconds

This is not how GA software is supposed to behave, and in this state, it is literally unusable.

Devan, this release does not include new visualizations or customizations, per se; however, during beta testing, we found the Skia graphics library improved visualizations for many.

Hi Or, I'm sorry to hear you had this experience with the new release. This challenge is best handled by our support team. Please connect with Support, as we did not encounter this during beta testing.

Are there plans to add new visualizations/customizations in future updates or is the focus primarily on Qliksense going foward?

Devan, we have no plans to add visualizations or customizations to future QlikView releases. We do plan further development in this area for Qlik Sense.

It seems the font representation has changed in QlikView Nov 2018.

Is this a wanted behavior?

It looks like the C-Client now has similar fonts to the AJAX Client, while older QlikView C-Clients had a slightly "larger font representation" with less antialiasing .

What does this mean for customers that want to upgrade? Are there any experiences what to test? Do you expect that table-line height change in QlikView Nov 2018, etc...

Hi Roland, thanks for the feedback. This is expected behavior and is a direct result of the Skia library implementation. We've documented this in the upgrade section of our release notes, page 3. I'm checking with R&D for additional technical details.
