A big part of the value is integrating with many platforms. Things change – you might start your analytics on AWS, then try certain workloads on Azure and Google. Your company might acquire a business unit that runs production data on SQL Server rather than Oracle. Your CIO might institute a data modernization effort that requires you to offload analytics queries from your DB2 z/OS systems to Kafka. Whatever direction you take, it helps to have a consistent, automated data pipeline process. Here at Attunity, now part of Qlik, we cast an ever-widening net with our pipeline automation. Attunity version 6.5 extends our leadership in enterprise data integration with enhanced platform support, performance and security capabilities, as well as additional platform configuration options for flexibility. Platform Integration Leadership in Enterprise Data Integration Attunity now integrates with new end points that organizations are embracing for both operations and analytics. We have added support for Salesforce, MongoDB and Google Cloud SQL as sources, and Google Cloud BigQuery, Azure Databricks (beta) and Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) Gen2 as targets. Attunity Data Integration: Any Source to Any Target Here are a few example use cases to see what this looks like in action. Next-Generation Data Lakes: Enterprises are shifting from complex, Hadoop-based data lakes on premises to simpler, more scalable and more efficient data lakes based on cloud-native data stores and Apache Spark. Databricks is a prime target. With Attunity 6.5, you can now automatically create an operational data store in the Databricks Delta lake, then load, merge and format data in it from Salesforce and other sources – mainframe production systems, SAP SRM applications, you name it. Source data and schema updates are automatically propagated into the ODS. So your analytics are based on a current, accurate view of the business, spanning sales trends, customer activity, supply chain updates and more. Multi-Cloud Initiatives: Many organizations are adopting a 2nd or even 3rd Cloud Service Provider in order to control cost, test one CSP’s advanced analytics tools, or reduce exposure to a CSP that is also a competitor. We continue to broaden our portfolio to flexibly support these decisions. With Attunity 6.5, you can migrate your data warehouse from Amazon Redshift to Google BigQuery, or migrate your database from Google Cloud SQL to Azure SQL DB. Performance We continue to reduce latency and increase throughput via deep integration with the most common enterprise platforms. Here is a look at the performance enhancements of Attunity Replicate 6.5. Kafka Targets: We have significantly improved performance when using the Avro format to encode messages produced by the Kafka target. Log Stream Targets: Replicate users now can adjust data compression levels with an intuitive slider. Higher compression levels conserve disk space, while lower compression reduces latency. SQL Server Sources: Replicate has reduced latency by reading SQL Server Large Objects (LOBs) directly from transaction logs instead of performing a lookup. Extended Parallel Load Support: This throughput-enhancing feature has been extended to the following endpoints: Sources: Teradata and Amazon RDS for SQL Server Targets: Azure Data Warehouse, and Snowflake on AWS and Azure Target Change Processing: Replicate now can increase throughput by applying batched changes to multiple tables concurrently on Amazon Redshift and Microsoft Azure SQL Data Warehouse targets, in addition to previously-supported targets. Management We have also improved our management flexibility, pushing out the envelope with new configuration options for some of our most popular sources: SQL Server: Replicate now supports dynamic data masking, as well as non-sysadmin users configured with the Always On option. Oracle: Reset log operations are now captured by default, and Replicate can detect open transactions on all RAC nodes rather than just the primary node. SAP HANA: Users now can: Replicate from both single and multi-tenant architectures on a single host. Replicate partition tables and header columns with log-based CDC. Security Finally, Attunity 6.5 hardens security controls on a number of fronts to ensure data integrity and support compliance efforts across all platforms. For example, Attunity Replicate now includes a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) option to encrypt client-server connections for email notifications. This SSL capability also includes the ability to verify “peer” and “host” fields by validating server certificates. We also have added non-privileged accounts on Windows, enabling users to run Replicate with restricted capabilities compared with the default account. At Qonnections 2019 I hosted a session called “Qlik Sense Visualizations, best practice and top tricks”. I have received a lot of positive feedback, so I decided to make a part 2 with 41 more or less useful new tips. Recent feature additions to Qlik Sense have certainly helped to expand the possibilities of customizing Sense, such as the container object, the dashboard bundle, alternate states, show conditions to name a few. But it’s also the power of the calculation engine and the expression language that many times provides a way forward tweaking the look and feel of Sense. Most of the tips I will share in this post are invented by others and have been published before on Qlik Community. I highlighted some examples below, but there are many more tips included in the app. Bars and sparklines in the straight table Pad with Unicode white breaks, add a center line and use the absolute max as denominator. Showing two version, plain bars and circles, filled or empty. Sparklines are covered in the first set of tips. Vertical filter pane with values Use the filter pane one grid high and change the label hold all values =concat(distinct Year,' | '). Different markers per line Add two measures, one for line and one for the symbol. Use master measures to keep colors consistent. Chart with annotations Use the combo chart and custom marker layers on a secondary axis. Add a custom expression for the marker and the label. Tweak the axis and the expression to get the markers on the right place. Best-selling combinations Create a copy of the combination field in the load script, in this case, ProductNames. Venn diagram This is a strict Venn diagram with all areas always present. Use an image of Venn diagram and the area layer of the map chart. Check out how to make a clickable chart of an image. Line chart with colored bands Can be made with the line chart in area mode with measures for the bands. Create a line chart, set to area mode, unstacked. Add master measures for the bands with the wanted color. Add master measure for actual. Add measures to chart, starting with actual and the bands in progressive order. If you’re one of many Qlik customers who use QVD files, you’re familiar with how their speed and versatility can benefit your use of QlikView and Qlik Sense. But if you have hundreds or thousands of QVD files, then you probably also know how much of a challenge it can be to organize and share this kind of data. Qlik recently introduced a new way to help with this challenge. The Qlik Data Catalyst June 2019 release included a new capability to understand QVD files. Just like any other data source, Qlik Data Catalyst is now able to ingest, profile, refine, catalog and publish data stored within QVD files. Not only can this help you get a better idea of what’s inside all your QVD files, but it also means you can now easily combine QVD data with non-Qlik assets or even share this data with any analytics platform. QVD files within Qlik Data Catalyst Building on this, the Qlik Data Catalyst September 2019 release included the introduction of a new offering which is solely focused on helping Qlik customers easily find the QVD files they need in a fully searchable catalog – Qlik Data Catalyst for QVDs. We designed this new product to be an entry-level offering, so we simplified the installation and administration. And we narrowed the functionality to just focus on profiling, tagging and cataloging QVDs and then publishing them to Qlik Sense. The September release also included some new related functionality on how Qlik Data Catalyst can work with Qlik Sense. In addition to the existing “Publish to Qlik Sense” option, which places data into a newly generated app and opens the Insight Advisor view, there is now a “Publish to Qlik Sense Advanced” feature. This gives the user the ability to add data to an existing Qlik Sense app and pick where they want to be when the Qlik Sense app opens: Insight Advisor, Data Manager or Data Load Editor. There’s also now support for international number formats and international characters in QVD file names. Note that both Publish to Qlik Sense Advanced and international support are available within both Qlik Data Catalyst and Qlik Data Catalyst for QVDs. It also shares the same design and cloud-native architecture as Qlik Sense Enterprise and is hosted on Qlik Cloud Services – which is Qlik’s highly-scalable, trusted and secure SaaS environment. Try Qlik Sense Business for Free! In addition to the launch of Qlik Sense Business, we have made several enhancements to Qlik Sense. We have added Natural Language Processing (NLP) capabilities to the Qlik Cognitive Engine, supporting natural language search in Insight Advisor – to further drive visual insights. This capability allows users to more intuitively interact with Qlik Sense when exploring data sets and generating insights. For example, as users engage with Insight Advisor, they are now able to enter search criteria using full natural language. The Qlik Cognitive engine parses the search string to understand the user’s intent and provides the right data and insights based on the search criteria. This is currently available in the cloud editions of Qlik Sense, and we have plans to expand natural language interaction into more areas of Qlik Sense. With this release, we have also enhanced our Advanced Authoring capabilities including expression promotion which provides a fast and efficient way to promote a dimension or measure created in an object to a master item, with this capability, application creators now have a better workflow when creating and testing expressions that will be used across the entire application, increasing productivity and driving reuse. Also, we have extended the support for the table JOINs in data manager – giving a less technical user more tools when preparing for data model analysis. Developers will so be pleased to know that we have added default landing sheets, to direct users to a specific sheet with pre-defined selections which enhances the guided navigation user experience. We have also added new visualization capabilities including a variance waterfall chart and improvements to pie chart styling options, like what is offered with our bar chart. With these new styling options, it reduces the need for mash-up and extension development and helps those who are moving from QlikView to Qlik Sense. We have added new geo capabilities with location awareness in mapping – to show your current location, which delivers value in mobile and field use cases. Before I jump into some detail on the most discussed topics, here is a screenshot of how I used Qlik Sense to help me analyze the activity from the session to help write this blog: New Visualizations and Enhancements - Qlik Sense June 2019 release saw more visualization objects added to the ever-popular Visualization bundle. Introducing the P&L Pivot table that you can style for profit and loss reporting using one dimension & nine measures or two dimensions & eight measures. Also new is the Trellis container for creating a trellis chart based on a master visualization. Did you know that you can control how many charts can fit in a Trellis container object? In edit mode go to Appearance > Trellis options > Maximum number of charts. Advanced Authoring Improvements – we showed a few smaller improvements often having a bigger impact, folks liked the fact you can now copy a single cell value from a chart or table to the clipboard and paste it where you need to [I am using this a lot!] and exporting rows and column data to excel was also well received. We are starting to utilize the piccaso.js library for more of the built-in visualization objects which generally enables more flexibility. For example, the Bar Chart is now built on the piccaso.js library and benefits on improved label functionality, such as having a total above a stacked bar that is the sum of the parts. Dual Use Licensing for Qlik View and Qlik Sense - Qlik is totally committed to Qlik View and as a QlikView customer it’s your choice whether you stay with QlikView, deploy Qlik Sense alongside your QlikView environment or migrate to Qlik Sense entirely. Whichever path you choose we want your experience to be as smooth as possible. As well as explaining the Dual use licensing options, we also showed improvements to some of the many administration and monitoring apps available to you out-of-the-box. To help with the governance of your QlikView environment, as well as aid migration planning of QlikView apps to Qlik Sense, be sure to check out the improved QlikView Governance Dashboard. The Qlik Sense License Monitor app now allows Administrators to holistically monitor their Qlik Analyzer and Professional license consumption across both Qlik Sense and QlikView. QVD Catalog functionality in Qlik Data Catalyst™Qlik Data Catalyst, along with Attunity joining the Qlik group, is a game-changer in democratizing data within your organization helping you solve your data integration challenges of making raw data available as business-ready analytic data to all your users. With Qlik Data Catalyst your users can shop for data in enterprise-wide governed data catalogs and feed it into any other BI tool of their choice, yes that’s right, not just QlikView and Qlik Sense! In this session we showed that it is now possible to manage libraries of your QVD files with Qlik Data Catalyst, really enabling analytics across your enterprise with trusted, business-ready data. Multi-cloud strategy - Qlik’s multi-cloud capabilities support any use case regardless of where your data is stored or how the Qlik platform is deployed. Qlik Sense has various deployment options; you can deploy on-premise and in your own private/public cloud and you can use our SaaS editions. Folks were interested in taking advantage of our cloud-native microservices architecture leveraging Kubernetes technology to deliver automated elastic scale when it’s needed and there was also a keen interest in our SaaS editions, Qlik Sense Enterprise on Qlik Cloud Services and the most recently launched Qlik Sense Business which you can try free for 30 days. The Qlik Sense SaaS editions are built on the same Kubernetes microservices architecture which means not only is it insanely quick to get access to analytics, it is a seamless user experience regardless of deployment options used. Insight Advisor and the ability to download to excel are now available on our SaaS editions. Check out this blog for a tour of our new cloud-based editions of Qlik Sense. Mapping and Geo Analytics – Qlik Sense has some powerful mapping capabilities built-in and this is continually being improved. We have now added the visual exploration menu to maps. The visual exploration menu lets you change certain visualization properties, without making selections or editing the sheet. The exploration menu for maps allows you to toggle layers and labels, adjust object size, and change the base map image, among other options. Incidentally, if the built-in maps aren’t quite what you are looking for, don’t forget you can always load your own maps in Qlik Sense.
