About 2,000 organizations use Attunity solutions to automatically replicate and transform data for analytics. The biggest hands-on beneficiaries are architects and DBAs. They can create and manage pipelines that copy live transactions from SAP, mainframe or Oracle to targets such as cloud-based data warehouses and data lakes, then refine it for analytics – without waiting on ETL developers to hand-script everything. (To explore the automated process and GUI, check out this video by my colleague Mike Tarallo.)
We’re excited to share some great news with you, our loyal QlikView fans, supporting QlikView and Qlik Sense co-existence and making it easier for you to modernize analytics across your organization. Our analytics solutions vision is to deliver a common platform to you for a unified analytics experience, so you can simplify deployments and make progress toward alleviating entitlement management burdens.
The Qlik Sense November 2019 release takes another step toward delivering on that vision*. With this release, you can run QlikView apps in Qlik Sense Enterprise on Cloud Services or on Kubernetes. This makes it easier for you to modernize your analytics. You can upload, view, and consume QlikView alongside Qlik Sense through a common hub and infrastructure using a single license key. This sets the stage for dramatic cost reductions associated with running separate infrastructure.
This is phase one of two; currently QlikView apps must be uploaded manually. Phase two will automate app uploads through QlikView Publisher. The current capabilities are available to customers who:
Have accepted the Dual Use offer
Are using the Professional, Analyzer, Analyzer Capacity licensing model
Have adopted unified licensing using a signed license key
Are deploying Qlik Sense Enterprise on Cloud Services or on Kubernetes.
The Dual Use offer entitles your QlikView user base to Qlik Sense for a modest uplift on your annual QlikView maintenance cost, providing your users with a modern approach to BI and tremendous flexibility. Unified licensing aligns QlikView and Qlik Sense under common licensing, providing you with a single signed license key to access more than one Qlik product. Unified licensing is enabled through the Qlik Licensing Service, simplifying licensing and management of entitlement and helping you ensure compliance.
Using QlikView and Qlik Sense side-by-side, you have the freedom to choose which product to use to satisfy application requirements for each project. You may choose to continue using QlikView for traditional guided analytics apps used by your business, determine some to be a good fit for Qlik Sense, and begin utilizing Qlik Sense for modern self-service use cases such as automated AI-powered insight, and geo-spatial multi-layer mapping.
Think this is an exciting step? There’s a lot more coming in 2020:
The ability to use QlikView Publisher to automate publishing of apps to the Qlik Sense Enterprise hub
Compatibility with Windows deployments
Use of Actions & Triggers
User-defined bookmarks
Export to Excel
Document chaining
You can find documentation for QlikView functionality in the November 2019 Qlik Sense Enterprise hub here.
*The QlikView April 2019 release introduced QlikView links in the Qlik Sense Enterprise hub as well as unified licensing for customers who have adopted the Dual Use offer.
