Hi Jacob - i haven't seen this topic covered in the Sense forums so i don't have much to offer you. You can however use variables in Sense which not everyone is aware of. But you need to define them in the load editor as there is no other place to do it. However, once you reload , the variables are now available to all expressions in the UI which may or may not allow you to leverage past approaches. Good luck.
