Splitting the App folders in Qlik sense to build the data model and make this available to users in Self service model?

‌Hello,

Is there a way to split the app folders in qlik sense so that you can point your presentation layer to a built data model and use that in the binary load Instead of making a data connection to main App folder?

Thanks,

Madhavi.

I am not sure why you need to "split" the apps folder? You can do a binary load from any available folder...

It's recommended (by best practice rules) to separate QVDs, QVF-Models and QVF-App files, but you do not have to do that...

Please elaborate about your use-case..

Vlad,

We have the production environment as well as Ad-hoc environment which shares the QVD's and applications between both the environments.

The only difference being in the Ad-hoc environment power users have the ability to do development as well.  We do not want to expose the QVD's ,but rather have the data model built my team and make those available to the users so that the users can add their external files and do their analysis on top of the pre-built data model instead of building the charts only on the published app.

I do not want to create a folder connection to the App folders of Qliksense  which holds  all the apps, but have another folder which would hold the data model QVF's like in Qlikview if possible.

Even if I point the presentation layer to the same App folder like you mentioned and create a folder connection, I have to use the app's GUID to do a binary load( or can I use the app's name to do a binary load?), but when we migrate the app from Dev environment to Production environment this will change. How to mitigate that .I guess this would be the same issue even if I create another folder.

Current folder structure defined is 1) Apps 2) Extract 3) Transform 4) Self-service Apps(?? -Data models only) if possible.

Appreciate any suggestions you may have .

Thanks,

Madhavi

Madhavi,

Sorry for delay in response. I am actually developing a solution for similar configuration on my side.

I will get back to you in couple days.

Vladimir

‌Vlad,

Thank you for your response. For right now, the workaround approach I am using is to have a folder connection to the Apps folder and reference that in the presentation layer using Binary load. Please let me know once you have your solution and I can see if it can work with my use case.

thanks,

Madhavi
