Import QVF from dropbox

Dear all,

What are the options of importing a QVF file that holds data only from dropbox?

The scenario is as follows:

- On a local computer Qlik Sense Desktop will be installed;
- A report will be automatically refreshed with local files that will be added to a local folder. This report will just hold information. It won't hold any graphs, etc.;
- Then periodically I'll copy the qvf file, with a scheduled task, to a drop box and want to import this in a report in Qlik Sense Cloud. So I can use the data from the qvf on drop box in that report and combine it with data from other sources.

Any thoughts on this?

Kind regards,

Sebastiaan

Re: Import QVF from dropbox

Hi

They way I set this up was as follows.

  • Use Qlik View private edition to automatically extract (daily hourly or whatever) and save qvd file to a dropBox linked folder. These could be incremental extracts
  • Use Qlik Sense cloud drop box connector to extract the required qvd data from DropBox

It works very well. and has for around 12? months Since converting from the web Dropbox link to the DropBox connector

You can create a DVD one by one or use this. But it pays to name every extract as  required

for i = 0 to NoOfTables() - 1
    LET d = TableName(i);
    store $(d) into
    C:\Users\Administrator\Dropbox\QVQVDSave\Tesseract/$(d).qvd
 (qvd);
next

LET j = nooftables();

do while j > 0
    let d = TableName(0);
    drop table $(d);
    let j = nooftables();
loop

exit Script

Re: Import QVF from dropbox

Hi there Robert99,

Thanks a lot for the extensive reply!
I don't have any experience with Qlik View yet, but will definitely give it a go if this is the only solution.
Do you think this is possible with Qlik Sense Desktop as well?
According to this thread it is.

https://community.qlik.com/t5/Qlik-Sense-App-Development/How-to-create-the-QVD-files-in-QlikSense/td...

And I can probably reload the Qlik Sense App through the API according to this thread.
https://community.qlik.com/t5/New-to-Qlik-Sense/How-to-reload-a-QlikSense-application-by-command-lin...

I'll have a look at the Qlik View personal edition as well. That looks a bit quicker and easier...:-)

Kind regards,

Re: Import QVF from dropbox

Hi

Its easy to create a QVD file in Sense. But not so easy to automate the process using the private edition. I have read that it can be done but is complex

Automating the process is easy enough in View
