Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Hi all,

I have a customer that will change his domain, so, full machine name will change, domain\user will change, etc. It will impact service configuration, access rigth, security rules, object ownership, etc.

Is there some guide of steps to do in order to migrate their Qlik Sense Central Node to the new domain?

Regards.

Christian.

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Dealing with the same issue here. It is not really documented in the Qlik Sense Help.

I think the main issue is that you basically can not really do anything after restore, because the Local Admin user in the new domain does not exist in the restored repository database, so you can't log into QMC after restore.

Did you manage to do this? I'd like to hear how.

Best regards,

Joost

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Hi Joost,

One of our consultants changed the root admin by updating the value directrly into the repository database. He logged to QMC, but he still can't logging in to HUB.

Best regards.

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Yes, I figured that would be a solution. But when you can log on to the QMC, you can create a new UDC and import the users from the new AD, right?

Is there any documentation on how to edit a value in the repository database?

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Hi,

I need to check that.

I didn't found any documentation, but at the end, the repository database is a Postgre database. I learned something with a Qlik technical support guy in a WebEx. Into Program Files instaled within Sens you have the client needed in order to connect to the repository. You can also use the tool to make the change:

C:\Program Files\Qlik\Sense\Repository\PostgreSQL\9.3\bin\pgAdmin3.exe

But be aware about changing things directly into the database, specialy if you have multinode environment. Sense use transaction logs to know what need to be synchronizated to each node. If you change something directly into the database I don't think any transaction log will be generated.

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

I have a related but slightly different situation: I installed Qlik Sense 3.0 on a server that was not part of a domain. I then created a local Windows account and used that to do stuff in Sense. I then joined the server to a domain, and created a new domain user account with the same name as a local user account. So I now have both:

domain\jsmith

local\jsmith

I cannot log into the Hub or QMC with domain\jsmith, despite having made it a Qlik root admin and given it permissions and a license token.

I am nervous about deleting the original local account from Qlik, but I am guessing that I need to do that, because Sense is confused about two accounts with the same User ID (but different domains)?

Thanks for any guidance.

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

You can also take back up of repository. Once domain is changed do the fresh installation and restore the repository. It would come up with the new domain. Please add the domain in white list.

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Dont delete the local account until the domain account issue is fixed. Domain account must not be resolving with proxy service, where it looks only for local account.

Please share the settings of your proxy settings.

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Hi Karthikeyan, thank you for your help. Here's a snapshot of the virtual proxy (it's the only one). I have other domain accounts that authenticate successfully into Qlik hub. It's just my one "duplicate" account that can't authenticate.qlikvirtualproxy.PNG

Re: Qlik Sense Server - Change of Domain

Is there anyone who has figured this out without manually changing the repository database? We soon have to migrate a Qlik Sense server to another domain again for another client.
