"Cannot unlock engine" error after updating to Qlik Sense Desktop November 2018

Hi,

I made an Update from Qlik Sense Desktop September  2018 Version to Qlik Sense Desktop November 2018 (Patch 1) on my local Windows 10 machine.

During the update process I got no error. After starting QS Desktop and authentification against my qlik profile i got following error message:

error.png

The message means somthing like: "Engine unlock failure. Please try again".

I did the following:

- Complete restart of Windows 10

- Execute Setup again in repair mode

- Authentification with an different Qlik profile

- Disconnected machine from internet

Nothing helped.

Any ideas?!

Thanks.

Are you using OneDrive? If so try installing Qlik Sense in a folder that isn't synced by OneDrive.

Hi Gysbert,

Thank you for the hint. Yes there is One Drive installed, but it's syncs a different folder.

Now i did a complete deinstallation and new reinstallation of QS Desktop. I cleared also QS temporary files in <user dir>\AppData\Local\Temp.

Nothing changed. The error still appears.

Any more suggestions?

Did you try doing a custom install with a different installation path?

On top I tried the following:

- Deinstallation of QS Desktop Nov 2018 an reinstallation of QS Desktop Sept 2018:

Result: QS Desktop Sept 2018 IS RUNNING.

- Again upgrade to QS Desktop Nov 2018

Result: QS Desktop Sept 2018 IS NOT RUNNING. Same error: "The engine could be unlocked. Please try again later."

So it seems to be a specific problem with the Nov 2018 release?!

Any further ideas?

PS: I checked the installation path. It is <user dir>\Documents\Qlik\Sense and the folder is not included in OneDrive synchronization. Furthermore a test after closing of OneDrive had no effect.

Sorry, small correction note.

It should mean:

... Result: QS Desktop Nov 2018 IS NOT RUNNING ...

I've no solution yet.

I had to go back to Sept 2018 release. But we will need a solution soon. Qlik Sense Desktop is our development environment for our product.
