Import your Qlik Sense data into Excel

Import your Qlik Sense data into Excel

Many Qlik Sense users also use Excel a lot. Typically they would explore the data in Qlik Sense and then transfer it to an Excel spreadsheet and continue working with, perhaps adding calculation, use multiple datasets etc.

You can export from Qlik Sense to an Excel file, that's included in the product. But if you want something more powerful, you should take a look at an Excel add-in which we have published in Microsoft AppSource: Add Sense for Excel.

The add-in works the other way: instead of exporting your dataset to an Excel file you work in Excel:addsensepanel.png

  1. place the cursor where you want the dataset
  2. connect to the Qlik Sense app (only need to do this once per app)
  3. select the visualization from a dropdown and click 'Insert'
  4. the add-in creates an Excel table with the dataset you selected
  5. it also saves metadata about the data you inserted, like what app it was from, when that app was reloaded and what selections were made

Some advantages of this approach:

  • data is in an Excel table, so you can work with it like a table
  • you can have multiple datasets in the same sheet, put them side-by-side for comparison, have different selections for different datasets etc
  • you can add formulas and Excel visualizations

The add-in support Excel online, Excel 2016 and Excel 2016 for Mac. A free 30 day trial is available.

Yes Qlik and Excel are good friends for enduser. There is a much more feature complete AddIn for Excel already in the market since years:

It supports beside the import of data as a table also the possibility to fetch data through a UDF (User Designed Function) into each cell.
