Qlik Sense documentation and resources.
Qlik Sense Desktop writes apps as files in a directory on the installed user's workstation profile. These files are given the extension .qvf. When creating a new app with Qlik Sense Desktop, you can verify the name and the directory location of the QVF file in the app overview page:
The folder is located here:C:\Users\<userid>\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Apps
Others that have Qlik Sense Desktop installed can also open these apps without any restriction. Simply have the user copy the .qvf file to the aforementioned specified directory on their workstation.
Watch this video below for a brief example of this process:
Note:
Alternative approaches to sharing Qlik Sense Apps - will be to use Qlik Sense Enterprise (available later this year) which offers a complete server-side self-service analysis, design and management for Qlik Sense apps.
Fantastic feature! Love what Qlik are doing.
Hi, Mike.
Thanks for the all the helpful tutorials. Quick question on sharing, since the source data are in my local computer, do I have to send it separately and have the receiver save it in the same folder structure on his/her local computer? Also, when she/he gets it to work, will the other user be able to modify the qvf?
Again, many thanks for all the useful resources.
Best,
Vinia
Hi Vinia, you are welcome 🙂
No - you do not need to include the source data - as it gets loaded into a compressed / indexed format as part of the Qlik Sense app (.qvf file). You only need to send the .qvf file and YES that file does need to be placed into the user's home directory as in C:\Users\<user profile>\Documents\Qlik\Sense\Apps and they can then refresh the Qlik Sense Desktop by pressing F5. (that is one limitation or part of the free product - it is for individual business or personal use) - Yes, using Qlik Sense Desktop and the .qvf, they will be able to modify their own copy. Please note that this is an ungoverned, unsecured solution - we do have cost effective enterprise solutions that enable online analysis, creation and team collaboration and sharing. You might want to look into the Qlik Sense Enterprise Server - it is token based - meaning you don't pay upfront server license, you pay per user type - tokens are like a currency you spend on user allocation that you can control. You may also want to check out this series (if you have not seen it yet) New to Qlik Sense Enterprise Server Videos - also there is a new online solution Qlik Sense Cloud - you can learn more about it here: Qlik Sense Cloud - hope this helps and let us know how you do.
