Hi all.
I want to know, if it possible, how I can setup 1 QlikView Access point for two different QlikView servers.
My current QV environment is:
machine 1: all QV services (QVS, QDS, QMC, etc)
machine 2: all QV services (QVS, QDS, QMC, etc)
today these 2 physical servers work separately and each of them has own Access Point:
My task is create one common Access Point for both of them.
for example, let's try to imagine this situation:
- server1 hosts only 1 qvw user document - dashboard1.qvw and when I open http://server1/qlikview, I see this document in the Access Point.
- server2 hosts only 1 qvw user document - dashboard2.qvw and when I open http://server2/qlikview, I see this document in the Access Point.
but I need to open link http://mainserver/qlikview and see 2 documents: dashboard1.qvw and dashboard2.qvw
Is it possible? and how?
As I understand, it should be resolved with 2 options at least:
1) take an another physical server, with limited set of Qlikview services (I don't know exactly, but, as I understand, we no need to have QVS instance on this server) and implement some special settings (or may be tricks )
2) Implement some special settings with one of our current servers.
I mean that we can use one of two existing our servers and setup a common AccessPoint.
I hope both variants are possible, but I don't know what should I do for creating a common AccesPoint.
Has somebody any ideas?
P.S. we use QlikView 11 SR2 Update2 and Windows Server 2008.
thx a lot.
Anatoly.
Hi Anatoly,
This should be very straight forward.
If you go to the QlikView management console > System > QlikView Web Server > Access point > Server Connections, you can add additional QlikView Servers to an Access point.
If you want a third machine to only host the web frontend you can install just the QlikView Web Server on said machine and configure it to use documents from both QlikView Servers via the management console.
Hi Johannes
Thanks for your quick response.
I open Server1 - QMC > System > QlikView Web Server > Access point > Server Connections
but I can't see any other QVS instances instead of current server1
I think that I have to add a new QVS instance (server2) as well (in Server1 - QMC > System > Qlikview Servers).
I will try to do it and come back.
anyway, thx for your advice.
Yep, I was correct (and you of course ).
At first, I have to add another QVS instance to Qlikview Servers ( Server1 - QMC > System > Qlikview Servers).
After that I can select additional server for Access point ( QMC > System > QlikView Web Server > Access point > Server Connections)
Thanks for you help.
Hi all
I have to return to this question
we have a qvw with internal Alert, which send emails to different recipients. it works correctly when we have different Access Points.
but after configuring 1 common Access Point for 2 different QVS we got one another issue with email alerting.
For example, we have QVS1 and QVS2. And we have configured 1 common AP on QVS1.
and when our qvw document (with internal Alert on Post reload action) reloaded on QVS2, we usually get emails from QVS1 (from the server with common AP), but we expect that we get emails from QVS2, because this document is hosted only QVS2.
I can't understand why QVS1 intercepts control and how we can avoid it...
I need help..
thanks,
Anatoly.
Hi Anatoly,
I'd guess that the QMS is on QVS1, and it's on QMC where you set the mail server, therefore the computer where the mails are sent from. Of course, you can set a different email server or even a relay (say you use Google Apps...).
Is that possible?
Regards.
Miguel
Hi Miguel
let me explain our environment...
we have 2 different installation of QV servers with diferent sets of qvw files.
each of these server has full set of QV services: QVS, QMC, QDS, DSC, QVWS
so we have
QVS1, QMC1, QDS1, DSC1, QVWS1, MAIL1 and
QVS2, QMC2, QDS2, DSC2, QVWS2, MAIL2
but we are using the same smtp settings for MAIL1 and MAIL2. the difference is "From address".
For QMC1 we use: qlikview1@mail.com
For QMC2 we use: qlikview2@mail.com
so we usually understand a kind of server which sent email alerts.
Today, I need to have 1 common AccessPoint on Server1.
I have added QVS2 ass additional QV instance in the QMC1 (QMC of Server1)
after that I added new instance QVS2 in Server1 - QMC > System > QlikView Web Server > Access point > Server Connections
I got a common Accesspoint (with common set of qvws from both servers) it's perfect, but when I try to reload publisher task on QMC2 (this task and qvw are hosted only on the Server2) I get an email from MAIL1 (qlikview1@mail.com)
I expect to get emails for QMC2 tasks from MAIL2.
How could it be fixed, is it possible?
thanks,
Anatoly.
Anatoly,
Thanks for the detailed description on the environment. First: are the QVS clustered or running alone?
If the former, having two QMCs can produce errors, if the latter, forget what I've said.
Just in case, one QMC can rule a cluster regardless where the QVS is, and can rule two Publishers to run in a cluster or separately and point where each task should be distributed and where the document should be available, because eventually, the cluster is seen as a whole (one unique server).
Hope that makes sense.
Miguel
Miguel,
answer is no - we have no any clusters!
we have 2 different separate boxes (with different licences for QV Servers and QV Publishers) with different set of qvws!
And the task is create one common AccessPoint with full set of qvws (from both servers), but in ideal situation we need to have email alerts from different servers (for complete understanding)
As I understand you, my task is unreal and we have to create a cluster, am I right?
Anyway, if we will buy a cluster license we can't get emails from different servers, because the cluster works as a whole (common) server.
Could you suggest any configurations which could help us to get our requirements ?
Thanks
What you need is one QVS and one QMC and a then you add each QDS to that. This way you have 2 separate QDS instances both manage both from the same QMC. BUT this requeries that you have a license that has rights for 2 QDS nodes.
You can as you alreday are, run and distribute files to the same "accesspoint folder" and that way get all qvws to the same destination, but you can´t configure settings for both QDS instances as they in fact are separated on a license level.
This is because you can´t add 2 different licenses into the QMC for Publisher OR QVS
Don´t know why you need to have each server sending their own emails?
Alerts will be sent out from each QDS and the users you have added to each Distribution Service, you configure each QDS separate in the QMC.
Only when clustered, one setting is for all nodes
So contact your account manager at Qliktech and he should be able to assist you with license questions.
