About QlikView Upgrade Path

We are planning to upgrade our Qlikview.
We are currently using version 12.00.
We are considering 12.80 as our target version.
In this case, can I use the 12.80 installer to upgrade all the way up to 12.80 at once?
Or should I proceed with an intermediate version in between?

Hello @shimazaki,

Yes you can upgrade directly to QlikView Server May  2023 (12.80) from version 12.00.As this is a rather big jump in versions, suggest you do extensive testing prior to upgrading your production environment. Be sure to review all of the Release Notes between v12.00 and 12.80 so that you are aware of all the changes between the versions.

Also of note is that v12.80 has updated the underlying security algorithm so you’ll want to ensure that all QlikView Desktop and QlikView IE Plugin clients are updated to v12.80 as well.

You can follow the following documentation/guides to upgrade:

Hi @shimazaki,

Yes you can do this. Install v12.80 on new server and migrate the v12.00 instance on the old server to it.

Thank you for your prompt and courteous response.
We understand that the upgrade can be done at once.
I will refer to the notes and the site you have provided to perform the upgrade.

Additional consultation.

We will be migrating to a new server for the upgrade.
Since the current server is in production, we would like to do the upgrade on the new server instead of on the current server.

However, we have not been able to obtain the installer for the current version (12.00) because the version used on the current server is too old.

Therefore, I would like to install the target version on the new server from the beginning and migrate various files and applications from the current server.

Is this approach okay?
Or is there another way?

Hi @shimazaki,

You can just install the version you want to upgrade to on the new server. When you copy over the QVPR, it will automatically be upgraded to the installed server version.

Thank you very much.

The instructions on the following site say

  1. On the new machine, install a running, licensed version of QlikView Server.

but I would like to install the target version only on the new server and migrate between the old and new, different versions.

Please let me know if there are any problems with the way I am thinking of doing this.
