Can I stand up a second QV server to test an upgrade, with one QV license

Have QV 9 and existing applications on one server. Would like to stand up a second server on another VM to test the upgrade to QV11 and new application [qvw's, etc].

I cannot get past the server licensing stage of the QV install, getting a popup:

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Make sure that the QVS is available with the correct credentials"

Also see the following error in the MS Event log:

Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action: UnregisterQVB, location: C:\Program Files\QlikView\Publisher\Distribution Service\QVB.exe, command: -Unregister

QEMC > Status > Services shows the QVS service off duty

Is this all happening because the production server is still up and we cannot share the license for a test machine? I have not checked the NUMBER_OF_CLUSTER_NODES in the users license. Would we need to acquire a 'test' license as well?

Thanks,

Brian.

Hi Bengleba,

No, you can't do that. QVS checks on startup to see if another QVS is using the same license and if so it will go "Off Duty".

Contact your account manager and they should be able to help you

Also Want to add that you can not use the Version 9 license on Version 11.

You need to get it upgraded too.
