De-clustering and Re-Clustering the servers in Qlikview environment

Hi,

We would like to remove a server from 2 node cluster. Is there any precaution we need to take prior to making the change? Also if we want to add the server back into the cluster, do we need to take any precaution.

Thanks

Krishnan

Hello Krishnan,

If you only wish to remove a server from the cluster and not reuse it elsewhere, then the only thing you need to worry about is the additional load that will be put on a single node instead of being spread across two.

If, on the other hand, you want to separately use the server you have removed from the cluster, then there are a bunch of things to consider:

The license

What you have right now is a cluster license which is applied across the entire cluster. So that means on each of the QlikView servers. When you de-cluster though, you'll need a separate license for each QlikView server. You cannot apply the cluster license to each one individually.

The root folder and document folder

Currently, you're sharing the root folder and document folders (User Document). When you remove a node from the cluster, this one needs to be configured with its own root folder and user document folder afterwards.

Generally, after removing the QVS from the cluster, I would recommend stopping the service and then deleting the settings.ini located in  C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\QlikViewServer on the server you just removed. Then start the service again and it will boot up without the previous settings and cannot unintentionally interfere with the other machine.

/Sonja
