Leasing License to QlikView Desktop Client

We are having an issue where one of our new developers is getting the pop up message "the Qlikview document was created another QllikView Personal Edition ....".  We thought we had the correct steps documented on how to lease a license, but the steps are not working.  Any help is appreciated.  Here are the steps that we were given, many years ago

Launch QlikView Desktop client

From the menu, go to  File -> Open in Server...

Enter the address to QlikView Server using the qvp protocol (example: qvp:// nf-qlikserver)

Hit Connect

Open a document.  The license is now leased from the Qlikview Server

Close and relaunch QlikView Desktop client. You should now be able to work with local documents and the client is fully licensed.

Do we not have him set up with the correct authority?  He continues to get the same warning messages even after taking these steps.

We are on version 2017 SR8 12.20.20900.0

Does he have a named user license assigned to him from QMC?  Can he open an app in access point?

Hi @chadholton,

Have a look at Qlik Support articles How To Lease License From QlikView Server To QlikView Desktop Client and Troubleshooting QlikView License Lease Issues.

Does your user receive any messages/errors when attempting to lease license?  Have you reviewed the QlikView Server Events log (ensure that QVS log verbosity is set to High)?

Hi,

It has been a long time since I did this, but in addition to @stevejoyce  checks I think in the desktop app you need to set Default License Lease Server (URL) under Settings - User Preferences - Locations;

Also note that the version you're running QV Nov. 2017, is no longer supported.  So if you need to contact Qlik Support for assistance, you'll need to be running a supported version.  Currently that is versions 12.40, 12.50, and 12.60.

I was a miscommunication with a fellow employee, I thought we'd already assigned the developer a user CAL, and we hadn't.  We got the lease to work now.

As for our version, we have an upgrade scheduled for this quarter for QlikView, the server, and NPrinting.
