Hi dear Qlik Community
I am writing to tell you about a case that we have with a customer that currently has QlikView and that wants to test Publisher, due to some internal situation he can not have an additional server for this test and he has asked us to test the current productive QlikView server , for this work I did an internal laboratory, creating a virtual machine with QlikView (Without Publisher) and it happened to me that when applying the Publisher license the tasks disappeared, I know that before this there is a trick with the QVPR and that it would be possible to see reflected These tasks in Publisher, which concerns me, that if the client decides not to make the purchase, I have the following questions:
1) The suggested procedure of the QVPR to move from QlikView (Without Publisher) to Publisher if it is adequate?
2) How would you deactivate the Publisher license or be one of the tests? Simply deactivate it at the end of the trial period
3) What happens with the tasks, how do I rollback them so they fit in the previous scheme?
Thank you very much for your kind help
Check with Qlik Support immediately.
There are ways to back and restore QlikView's QVPR (repository data) both if they are using XML files or a database.
With regards to the license, once the tasks have been created they will not be removed, even if the QlikView Distribution Service does not work or even it is uninstalled: all the XML files related will persist on the disk.
However, if the customer does not want to use Publisher, those tasks will very likely not be readable by QlikView Server.
The reason why some tasks are not correctly migrated and why you need to contact Qlik Support is because QlikView Publisher creates a new folder structure and stores all tasks in a different way than QlikView Server does (QVS tasks are mainly reload only). QlikView Server and QlikView Distribution Service are two different software components with their own executables and configuration files and folders.
In my experience, unless there are recent changes in latest versions of QV12, you need to recreate the tasks in the QMC if you want a proper, clean installation both if you install Publisher or remove it.
To deactivate the license use the QMC and apply the adequate license, otherwise the service might still run but will not be supported by Qlik.
I'm in the same boat as well right now and would love to see any direction on this.
To roll back the tasks, there's a backup folder in the QVPR folder that contains daily zip backups of the tasks.
Just unzip the latest onto the QVPR folder.

AFAIK even without a Publisher license, it's still the QlikView Distribution Service that does the reloads starting from the QVPR task definitions. But the content of the QVPR xml files is different in the two cases.
Dear All,
Even i have to install a QV Server+ publisher in new machine and i want QMC to automatically pick all task from my another existing QV server+Publisher setup.
Please help me understand how can i achieve this?
Will Copying QLIKTECH folder (including all subfolders , Distribution services, Management Service (+QVPR and all other subfolders)) automatically bring same setting (QMC settings and all tasks ) as existing system into new system?
Thanks,
Pragya
