QlikView ReloadEngine stops frequently - All reload jobs fail

We are using QlikView 10 SR4, and have been using QlikView for several years.

In the past several months, we have had a very annoying issue of the QlikView ReloadEngine stopping frequently, sometimes nightly. When this happens the QlikView Distribution Service in Windows is stopped without any error messages or log file entries, and the ReloadEngine stops without any alert/notification sent out by QEMC.

We have 245 nightly reload jobs, which are staggered over 8 hours, so when this situation happens, it takes several hours to recover.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I would appreciate some advice on this issue, as QlikTech Support hasn't been able to assist at all.

When we last spoke with them, their advice was to reduce the nightly jobs or upgrade (which we had just done).

Best regards,

Klaus Feldam

Klaus, seems really weird that a service will stop without anything being logged anywhere.

Have you tried setting the distribution service log to debug? You should also check windows event viewer for any issues right before or after the service stops.

I haven't used any but I know there are some tools that can monitor services availability, perhaps you should look into that as well.

Klaus,

Did you eventually sort your problem out ?  Your description is exacly matching ours... The only different is that we only have 1 (big) job so I'm really puzzled.

Any tip or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The issue is not yet resolved, unfortunately.

We have rebuilt the server, re-installed the QlikView application, deleted and re-built the reload scheduler - and still having the same issues nightly.

We are running our server on a dedicated VMWare box for recovery purposes. Our suspicion is that the VMWare configuration may affect the QlikView Distribution service, so we are now planning to uninstall VMWare and have QlikView run directly on the server. Hopefully, that will help.

QlikTech Support score an F on on this one as they have been unable to assist.

Hi Klaus,

We're also having the same issue, only we've had the problem for a while on our UAT boxes, and it has just now started occurring on the production server. It would seem that its to do with the amount of data reloaded, since nothing else has changed in our setup. Have you had any progress with this at all?

Hi guys,

do you have an AV software running on the server?

We've encountered random crashing Qlikview jobs, but with a Comexception in the logfiles, with an upgrade of our AV software.

We went back to normal operations, after we excluded all Qlikview related files and folders.

Best regards,

Tom
