Section Access uses DMS/NTFS

Hi All,

I understand that there are many discussion we had about section access and DMS/NTFS authorization in this community. But still I am not able to come to a conclusion for my question by reading those discussions.

Could anyone please tell me that if we use section access in our application, in server we need to set the authorization to DMS or it can be DMS/NTFS?

I haven't worked using section access. Basically I worked on using Active Directory and used NTFS for authorization. So while distribution we go to the "Distribute" tab in source document and add a group/user (this information is from AD). So the users in that group could see that particular application. But I have no idea on how it happens with section access.

So I would like to know how to set up the distribution task for an application when section access is used and how it is applied at the accesspoint level.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Leni Balakrishnan

i Think you can use both authorization type DMS/NTFS with section access,

section access being used for row level data reduction, and DMS/NTFS for document level authorization..

have you seen this qlikview security video series...?

Hi Leni,

You can use either one. With DMS when you distribute a qvw the users ID is held in the .meta file and QVS uses that for authorization. If you use NTFS QVS uses that for authorization.

Section Access is authentication and QVS uses the ID in Section Access to see if you are able to open the qvw. It checks your NTName with what is in the access table.
