Security Group Recipients from Distribution Log Metadata

Hi all -

Our tasks in QMC/Publisher distribute QVWs to security groups hooked up to our Active Directory that contain hundreds of users. I would like to be able to extract the metadata from the distribution log of a specific task in order to obtain a list of all these users without having to actually go into our AD.

Per the screenshot below, when I access the DistributionDetail log file located in C:\ProgramData\QlikTech\ManagementService\QVPR\DistributionDetail, I can see users that are manually assigned to the distribution task as well as the security groups, but cannot see who is actually within this group.

Is it possible to obtain this information, or am I better off going directly to the AD?

Thanks,

Gary

Gary, you can likely use the DistributionReport.xml located in the QDS Application Data folder in the task log folder for each task.  This will give you the same info you are finding in the QVPR, but by task, which may be a bit easier to see things, but I believe in the case of groups we write the group name, not the list of users in the group.

To get the group members, the best thing would be to use a directory browsing tool against your AD etc.  Sorry I do not have a better answer, maybe someone else will know something I do not, but I am pretty sure I am not missing anything here.

Regards,
Brett

You will need to extract the group members from AD somehow.  You can extract the data using QlikView:

Qlikview Cookbook: Load Users and Groups from Active Directory http://qlikviewcookbook.com/recipes/download-info/load-users-and-groups-from-active-directory/

or a tool like MsLogParser.  How you extract I suppose depends on how you ultimately want to use the data.
