Hi Community,

Someone knows what is the way to update qlikview in a client where QMC and Access Point are in different servers?

Thanks.

No worries @Chip_Matejowsky , many thanks for all your answers.

Last Clarification, when you mentioned: "you would install QMS & QDS on first server & QVS and QVWS on second server"

It's means:

1) Select custom installation, and for the fist server  select these 2 profiles:

  • Reload/ Distribute Engine: Installs the Reload Engine and the QlikView Distribution Service.
  • Management Console: Installs the QlikView Management Service together with the QlikView Management Console (QMC).

2) Select custom installation and for the second server select these 2 profiles:

  • QlikView Server: Installs QlikView Server, Directory Service Connector, and the QlikView Server example documents.
  • Webserver: Installs the QlikView Web Server.

Thank you!

Hi!
Check this link on the Help site, and go to the "Upgrading a multi-server deployment" section:
https://help.qlik.com/en-US/qlikview/May2021/Subsystems/Server/Content/QV_Server/QlikView-Server/QVS...

Also, refer to this whitepaper.

I hope this helps!

Hi @pasgalbarra,

When running the installation .exe file, choose custom installation and install QlikView Server service on one Windows server and QlikView Web Server or QlikView Settings Service (if using IIS) on the other Windows server.  In addition to the documentation that Daniele provided, see Setup Procedure for further details.

Hi @Chip_Matejowsky ,

Sorry to bother you, but according to your answer I have to select custom installation and select QlikView Server option for one server (I guess the one with the QMC) and Webserver when updating the server with the Access Point.

What about thes other 2 profiles?

  • Reload/ Distribute Engine: Installs the Reload Engine and the QlikView Distribution Service.
  • Management Console: Installs the QlikView Management Service together with the QlikView Management Console (QMC)

Should I select these 2 in the first server? (QMC)

@pasgalbarra,

So that all depends upon what type of architecture you want the QlikView Server environment to have.  And also if you have a Publisher license as well.  Do you only have 2 windows servers available for the environment or do you have more?

In a typical distributed environment with QVS and Publisher, most admins split QVS and QDS onto separate servers as they are both resource intensive. What is the main reason you want to have the webserver separate from the QMC?

@Chip_Matejowsky

This would be an update, and the client wants to maintain the same architecture which is :

First Server Server PUB, with QMC  and QlikDesktop  April 2019 SR1

Services in  this server:

  • QlikView Directory Service COnector
  • QlikView Distribution Service
  • QlikView Management Service
  • Qlik Service Dispatcher

Second server AP, with Access Point and QlikDesktop  April 2019 SR1

Services in this server:

  • QlikView Server
  • Qlikview WebServer

Okay @pasgalbarra,

If your customer wants to maintain the same architecture, then you don't need to separate QVS and QVWS.  Am I missing something?  Thanks!

@Chip_Matejowsky

My question is:

Should I connect to both servers, stop all services, copy the QlikViewServer_x64Setup file in both server and install in boths right?

But selecting custom Installation, which of these 4 profiles should I select in each server?

  • QlikView Server: Installs QlikView Server, Directory Service Connector, and the QlikView Server example documents.
  • Reload/ Distribute Engine: Installs the Reload Engine and the QlikView Distribution Service.
  • Management Console: Installs the QlikView Management Service together with the QlikView Management Console (QMC).
  • Webserver: Installs the QlikView Web Server.

I might been misising something, because as I see the architecture are 2 servers, QMC in one and Access Point in the other, that was my initial question, how do I do to Update QlikView in clients where QMC and AP are in different servers.

Thank you for your time!!
