What does the warning message 'GetGroups: DCName is empty...' in the Server Event log mean and how do we eliminate these warnings?

I'm seeing the same type of entries.

Does anyone know what these are?

Thanks,

"GetGroups: DCName is empty" is an excessive logging message and can be ignored.

The warning was introduced in V11.2 SR8 to debug an internal Qlik issue.

The bug has been cataloged as "excessive logging bug" (ID 69558). It was repaired and will be included in a future release.

Hope it is removed soon because is really annoying. Thank you.

Dear Don,

The warning "SE_LOG: User - GetGroups: DCName is empty. Fetching... " is just a warning that the QVS is not able to collect the Domain Controller name. But regarding these new log entries they are not Errors and do therefore not require any further actions. Yes, Bug# 69558 was open and corrected the log spamming, and it is projected to be added to V11.20 SR11.

Since we aware the issue, do you mind if you close this discussion and select the correct answer?

Hi

At a client's site, this message startet appearing in the event log at the same time as reloads startet failing randomly (that is not all the time, but more often than not) with this error:

System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. || Parameter name: stringToUnescape ||    at System.Uri.UnescapeDataString(String stringToUnescape)

In this case, the problem was that the AD server had been upgraded from 2003 to 2008, and apparantly QlikView couldn't handle the rollover without a restart (other systems kept on chugging just fine).

So I'd say it isn't entirely useless, just not very informative. The DirectoryServiceConnector log did not contain any usefull information (log level set to normal).

Best regards,

Henning Naarlien-Tolpinrud
