qmc missing license

hi all,

i assign users CAL to a model in qmc, then deleted the model without removing users CALfrom the document.

now i still see the model in QMC document tab without any CALs assigned even that the model is deleted from root folder.

any ideas how can i remove the model from QMC and retrieve back the licenses

advanced thanks

I think there must be a 100 threads in this community that discuss ways to remove the document listing from QMC and recover the licenses.

In short it goes like this:

  • In QV Desktop, create an empty document with the same name as the one you removed. You can even create an empty text file and rename that one to a qvw with the original name.
  • Put the empty document in the exact same spot where the deleted one resided.
  • Check your QMC. The document should be back where it belongen i nthe User Document tree, and the all-capitals name should be gone.
  • Remove both the reload task and the Doc CAL assignments and reservations.
  • Only after that, remove the empty QVW from its folder.

Best,

Peter

hi Peter thank you for your help..

i already replaced it with not empty document and it automatically assigned previous CALs

now i have in the tree 2 models 'Sales' and 'SALES'

in the root folder only 1  Sales.qvw and SALES.QVW.Shared

The SALES.QVW.SHARED is not important. It is created automatically by the QlikView server for every document that appears in the root folder, a mounted folder or any of their subdirectories.

IMHO the appearance of two Sales.qvw documents in the QMC tree (one in CamelCase and one in upper case) means that your deleted document was residing in a different location. Did you ever remove an entire subdirectory?

hi Peter, appreciate your help

didn't removed the subdirectory.

for now i have a document with users assigned , and all is working.

the previous model (with the same name) is deleted and the cals was assigned to him are gone..

is it possible to retrieve them back?

That's weird. If two documents in QMC - one existing, one deleted - have the same name, and they were residing in the same location (no mounted folder, no subdirectory etc.), I'm a bit at a loss here.

If you want to do away with this anomaly and recover the lost CALS, I suggest you run the Qlikview Server CAL Manager. It will help you in detecting lost CALs and how to recover them.

If you first want to figure out where exactly this lost document was placed and how to manually recover the lost CALs, you can configure your QVS to dump the .pgo files as XML also (restart required) and search the CalData.pgo.xml file which will contain all hidden details of the lost document. Instructions can be found here: Re: lost document cals

thank you Peter,

the server cal manager is very helpful!

though the batch cant help me because the cals were not assigned to any user .

one thing i notice that the server cal manager found the "lost model" under strange path and the model is not replaceable.

E:\Production\E:\PRODUCTION\SALES.QVW

instead of

E:\Production\SALES.QVW

looks like a subdirectory you mention, but it doesn't exist..

where can i find this path and replace the qvw??

resolved with deleting CalData.pgo and reassign all Cal's
