Probably it's because I am real begginer about the Qlikview world. In my opinion Qlikview is very powerful and quite complex so I was wondering if you are just specialized in the devlopment of Qlikview project (inclunding sql, anc vb script skills).
Are you devoloping with others languages?
Thanks in advance
I apologize as well for this silly question
For me the answer is yes, I'm a QlikView developer. But I have a background in SQL and PHP developing. That probably helped, but it's not necessary to becom a good QV developer.
Hi,
I'd agree with Thomas, a solid grounding in SQL will help you when you are creating scripts. You can probably do most things within QlikView once you've loaded the data in so it's probably not essential but I'm sure it will help.
I've been using QlikView for about 2 years now (mainly at an end user) and haven't needed to delve into vbscript thankfully so I'd say this will be something further down the line as you start doing more advanced stuff.
A good eye for design will help too and looking at the demo applications and how they visualise the data will no doubt give you some ideas how you can do this yourself.
For myself it was just getting stuck into loading data and playing around with formatting data and some of the more common functions. I'm sure once you have any questions about anything in particular you'll find an answer in the community.
Good luck!
Chris
I don’t think this is a silly question at all. QlikView is simple enough for anyone to use, but complex enough to allow someone with the right skills to do much more.
SQL skills are important because if your raw data is in the best possible format your reports will be easier to write. However, skills with other languages will give you a way of thinking that allows you to see solutions to problems that others might miss. Formal programming should give you a discipline and an eye for detail too.
Personally I started with COBOL and worked my way through the alphabet, finally ending up with SYNERGE/DE (not many people have heard of that one !), and I now develop reports in StreamServe too.
I'm fairly new to QlikView myself, so from one beginner to another, Good Luck
John
I posted a blog article on what's required to be a QlikView developer a while back - you may want to take a look?
Steve
Thanks !
