Hi,
I have questions about client activating by [Machine Name].
What is it for?
Does it allow to activate common pc which has used by several user? How many are CALs consumed?
e.g. 10 people on 10 virtual OS in 1 machine.
-> Consumes 10 CALs?
e.g. 10 people on 1 Windows Server.
Just 1 OS. Consumes 1 CAL?
Thank you.
"By Machine Name" is a method to identify CAL Assignees and Document visitors by way of a binary code composed of a device name and a MAC address (see the Lease History tab in QMC for examples). This could be useful when many users need access to QlikView documents from Shared PCs, instead of all needing a CAL which they won't use at the same time.
There are some specific limitations to this identification method:
Best,
Peter
10 people = 10 users means that you need 10 CAL's and the machine isn't important from this point of view.

Thank you for your reply.
> Machine name identification is contrary to mobility. Users are tied to one or more machines, and cannot use their CAL on a laptop and on a mobile phone, for example.
If QV Server leased a CAL to QV Desktop which works on Windows Server by activating Machine-name, I think it's possible to do in technically that several users access to Windows Server by [Remote-Desktop] and access QV Server by multiple devices. Is it OK?
I don't think so. Switching from User name identifcation to Device name identification for Named or Document CALs doesn't suddenly get you unlimited concurrent usage licenses.
