I'm trying to make the bars grow from the right to the left, is this possible without using negative numbers e.g. (expression)*-1
If I understand your issue correctly, it's just a matter of formatting to avoid the negative numbers on the left.
Have a closer look to the above example, there are two charts in use with different number formatting (also check the number tab).

Not sure if it's possible without the negation, but if you accept this, you can do it like this demo:

This is great, but my left hand side will always show negative numbers. Are their any ways around this? Changing the underlying data for one simple graph isn't really an option.
