Caption / background information box - QV v8.5

Hi

Is it possible to create a floating caption box, so that when a user hovers over this icon, text box appears providing a background explaination of the anaylsis provided?

I've seen on one example in the forum, where someone was an "i" in the caption box.

Im using QV v8.5

Please advise,

Kind regards,

Rich

Check out the attached for a couple of different ideas. For one, I added Help Text to the chart itself; that's where the ? icon on the caption comes from. I also made the text box (almost) transparent and overlayed over the chart. Note that for the Help Text, I put the text I wanted displayed into the "Help Text" box in the Caption tab of both the chart and the text box.

Let me know if this doesn't make any sense. -Isaiah

Hi Rich > the "i" in the caption is "Info" in QlikView speak > check the Help for "Info".

Alternatively sometimes I create a text box and layer higher than the chart and add "Help Text" on the Caption tab in the text box properties. When the users mouse over the text box it will show the Help Text.

Hi Isaiah,

Thanks for your reply!

Im not sure whether I fully follow, but have created an example as per your suggestion above...

Does your solution change the "Help Text" from invisible to visible when the mouse hovers over it? ie similar to html's "onmouseover" etc... Would be cool, if that exists?

Can you kindly clarify on the attached. please?

Please advise,

Kind regards,

Rich

Have adjusted the file to display 2 possibles ideas of doing displaying the text box, but unsure whether either are technically possible?

1 - on mouse over type action

2 -using a text box as a button to an action macro (ie launch expanded box)

does anyone know if either approach are techniquely feasible?

Please advise,

Hi Isaiah,

I like that a lot (the ? returning the text box)!

Question now is, how did you do it 😉

All you need to do is go to the chart properties and add text into the "Help Text" field at the bottom of the Caption tab. -Isaiah

Hi Isiah,

Found it: Caption tab, and in bottom right corner "Help text"

😉 Many thanks for a nice tidy solution!
