Control the display Rank results without RowNo()????

Hi...we have spent days on this so if what we are trying to do is even possible, we'd love to know....

On one of our dashboard tabs we use an expression in a chart to rate Instructors (we do not use a straight table).

We need to be able to rank the results from highest to lowest (taking into consideration we group the data).

  • The Rank function works fine except we get this result:   1,1,1,3,4,5 when we want 1,1,1,2,3,4 (in SQL we would use Dense Rank)
  • We have tried many versions of the rank function (and we can’t use RowNo so those examples won't work for us).
  • So we tried using the ‘Above’ function in order to get the Rank results to display the way we want.
  • The 'Above' function seems to evaluate RowNo and we can’t use that, we want to evaluate the 'Row Above', not the next RowNo.

  • Since we are ranking an expression that is calculated on the UI we don’t see how we can control the load order to control RowNo in order to be able to control the display results……

Any thoughts?  Is this even possible?

Thanks!!!!

Kay
