Custom Trendline in chart

Hello there

I am trying to create a funnel plot... similar to the one shown here:

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.improving-visualisation.org/img_uploads/2009-05-07_...

I have created a plot, 'working round' with a combination chart as you are not able to combine scatter plots and line charts, using the following:

  • Dimension: the summed aggregated Denominator (population) by group, on a continous axis
  • expr1: dots representing the rate that I wish to look at:
  • expr2-5: The margins of error, roughly ~2 sd and ~3sd

So instead of drawing continous lines based on a formula, each x and y for the line is plotted according to the denominator, and a function based on the denominator.

This is great where there is a large number of groups, but where they are sparse my lines are angular. This does not affect the interpretation of the data as each point has it's own limits, so you can still tell whether it is outside the limits or not.

My question is, is there a better way to produce this chart instead of working around? Can I add maybe a second series to a scatterplot that are connected with lines? Or there must be a way of specifying a formula into a custom trend line.

I've searched the forum and the web, and can't find anything. I am on QV9. Many thanks for your help

Erica

Hi Erica,

Did you manage to solve this problem? It is exactly what I'm trying to get to work at the moment.

Thanks
