Customisable straight tables - hiding current selections

I have created a sheet with a straight table that users can customise by selecting dimensions and metrics from a list box as shown below -

The dimensions are grouped into meaningful themes as there are quite a lot.  The users selections appear in the current selections box as shown below -

I would like to be able to hide these selections from the current selections box (especially the %_dimension group).  Is there a way to do that?

you could solve that with the help of alternate states and triggers...

But then I need sample data and must warn that this can become very confusing...
