Dashboard Design Flow

Hi All,

Recently I've been asked to Develop a Dashboard in 3 hours in an interview. I was given the data sources & Business Requirement Document. I couldn't design the Dashboard while submitting the way wanted it to be. It lacked a good UI.

Can you please suggest, how should I overcome this hurdle in future?
