Date subtraction & nulls

Hi,

I am trying to subtract 2 dates but one of the fields sometimes has no dates. This gives me a strange result where  I get a large minus figure such as -2174. How can I deal with this? This is the expression I have used:

resolution date - created date

[m_woolf]

Rangesum(resolution date, - created date)

[rwunderlich]

Alt(resolution date, today(2)) - created date
