QVD is a table file stored in QlikViews proprietary format.

QVW is an application/document that reads these table files (and other data) to perform analysis.

QVW is the qlikview application.. (When saving an application developed in qlikview the file extension is .qvw

QVD is Qlikview Data format.. we can convert any kind of database into QVD format and it reduces the loading time when loading from QVDs.

Also worth mentioning (as it's commonly misunderstood) a qvw typically stores data and that data is compressed. QVD always stores data but it is not compressed.
