A mekko chart is a stacked bar chart with varying column width, so it can  show two expressions for each dimension.

A Block Chart shows the value as a rectangular area.

Hi, in the mekko chart each bar sums 100% and is distributed based on 2nd dimension:

Meanwhile the block chart distributes everything selected with his % over the total:

Both charts had the same data, only changed the chart type.

Try using Google.

Search for "Mekko or Block Chart" this gives many hits some from this site others from elsewhere.

Hi,

Mekko Chart: It is similar to a bar chart, only difference is width varies based on the values, where as in bar chart all bars widths are same.

Block chart is similar to a Pie chart which shows the ratio of the dimension value.

jagan.

Hi ,

Block charts are often used to show the ratio to total in multi-levels and also for heat-map utilizing calculated background colors.

Mekko chart is very similar to a stacked bar chart but it has an additional measurement which is the width.

It is a great way to display breakdowns either in ratio or in actual amount.  This example shows the ratio break down to the whole.

Mekko chart helps you identifying the breakdowns in multi-dimensional ways using the width.
