Hi, Ramesh!

Dimension Limits can only be used for charts.This parameter reduce the number of showed bars/lines/dots etc.

A Rank function defines an order of field values. For instance "rank(sum(sales))" will mark from 1 to n all amounts of sum(sales) in pivot table. If you use more than one dimension in pivot table you must specify rank calculating level using a Dimensionality() function.

Hi

Dimension limit can use in charts where as rank function will use in pivot table. We dont have dimension limit option in Pivot table. For example Top 5 Customers, Top N products etc. Depends on situation will use dimension limit and rank functions.
