Disconnected viewing for end users?

Hi,

We have a user who is asking to view .qvw files on his laptop while away from the office, e.g. flights, cottage, etc. (no internet/vpn). And we don't want the user to be able to modify the file or use developer features, etc. What's the best solution for this situation? Thanks.

Brian

Hi,

depending on the knowledge of the user add a "section access" and go to "Settings"->"document properties"-> "Security" and take him all the rights.

Brian,

Install the analyzer version on his PC and he can just view the application and if he does any changes then also it is local for his PC

what is the Analyzer version? Are you talking about the IE viewer? From what I know this can only be viewed while connected to the internet.

If you go into Settings --- Level there are 3 levels Analyzer, Professional and Developer.Look into the help file and depending on the user license the company has you can install the analyzer on the pc and that user can only view the files without modifiying those

Hi Talha,

Thanks for your help. I'm using version 9 and don't see those options. In the help file it says they are no longer available.

Collapse of Developer, Professional and Analyzer

A consequence of the introduction of QlikView Personal Edition is that the difference between Developer, Professional and stand-alone Analyzer is no longer relevant and the three levels have been removed. Everyone has the right to run a QlikView with developer capability.

However, the functionality of corporate users can still be limited through deployment options stored in the registry.

Hi Brian,

i do have quite the same requirement for my end-users that should access .qvw in a stand-alone mode.

Did you finally found a solution ? moreover i have two questions perhaps you can help,

- is it possible to "distribute" a .qvw file for users to share the same reports? (i have read that .qvw file are "personnal")

- is it possible to hide the menu bar and other "developer" functionality in the Desktop application or do i have to use a kind of .qvw reader ?

The idea is that i want to be the only one to design the reports but would like end-users to use my .qvw file without server (they all have the same datasource on their machine...)

Thanks for your help,

Laurent
