Hi all,
I'm starting to use the dynamicupdate action and commands in a macro with the aim that users will be able to update a field and then to export the changes to excel so they can be used in the next reload.
My question is if there is any way other than adding a user to the "QlikView Administrators Group" to use dynamicupdate ?
DynamicUpdate seems like such a useful function but I don't think we will start to use it if users need to be in the "QlikView Administrators Group".
Thanks
Mark
I don't think that users have to be part of "QlikView Administrators Group" to use dynamic update.
Can't you get it working or what problem do you have?
Be aware that dynamic update can hit the server performance quite hard.
Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the reply.
At the moment the action on the button works fine when the user is in the "QlikView Administrators Group"
but doesn't appear to do anything once the user is removed from this group.
I assumed the user probably needed to be in this group because the QlikView help says:
"The intended usage of Dynamic Update allows a QlikView Administrator to feed limited amounts of data in to a QlikView document from a single source without running a reload of the document."
I was just hoping there was something daft that I had missed. I'll carry on trying to solve this problem.
Thanks
Mark
Ok
Didn't find this info in the Reference manual, but it is in the help file.
I usually am in the QlikView admin group so I never seen the problem. 🙂
Sorry about the misinformation.
Hi Jerry,
The info was from the help file when you are in the 'add action' dialog box.
Thanks for asking the question, the help file doesn't make it totally clear so it was a bit of an assumption on my part.
I'll carry on trying to find a solution.
Mark
Hi Mark,
Did you find a solution around this?
We ideally dont want to add users to the admin group
Cheers
hi marc, i have already used Dynamic update command and didn't find any other way to make it work unless the user is in the qlikview administartors group, at least that what qliktech support have said.
Malek,
Appreciate the quick response.
That is unfortunate about the user needing to be in the admin group as it is not an option we are willing to consider.
yes i know, and especially that the administrator group have high privileges. maybe you need to reconsider working with the dynamic update then and look for something else.
maybe if you tell us your situation we can help you out with something.
Hi Marc,
In the end I moved away from using macros and dynamicupdate to using extensions instead.
We have extensions that save data back to a sql server that can be used in other documents.
Thanks
Mark
