Embed external files into Qlikview

Hi,

Is it possible to embed a pdf or Excel viewer into a QV dashboard?

I thought this would be possible by using the OCX controls but I don't get them to work.

Is anyone aware if it is possible to just display a pdf or excel file inside a Qlikview dashboard?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Jens

There is an alternative way of displaying certain files in AJAX using the WebViewer on the server and it is by placing the files directly into the QVAJAXZFC root folder (path set in QEMC>System>Setup>Qlikview Web Servers>{name of server}>Web, but not sure if this is recommended or not!!

I got .pdf, .xls and .htm files (.htm need their associated files folder) to display fine.  I used a folder structure so just need to reference as folder/filename in the WebViewer.

Has anyone any recomendations against doing this?

Hi Flipside

Can you expand on your method, where do you store the eg .xls file and how do you referer to it on web viewer?

thanks

Hi samlavers,

I haven't deployed anything yet but I'm about to re-visit this for an upcoming project I have.  I'm assuming you've read through this thread and are familiar with the WebViewer extension.

The path is set in the extension properties whilst in webview (I have a problem webviewing on desktop and server for different reasons, so can't confirm exactly where you enter details but remember it being quite simple - I have to set it whilst in normal view mode by going to Sheet Properties > Objects > {ObjectID} > Properties > Presentation to edit the Text in Chart !!).

In QEMC or QMC you can see the root path for QVAJAXZFC (see above) - and this is where you COULD put documents, however these are system files so I wouldn't place them there.  Instead create a folder called DocStore or something and place documents in there.  This would need a path in the format ='DocStore/file.pdf'.

I've no idea what QlikTech's view is on all this, but it seems fine to me for occasional stuff such as help files, but if your document needs to access many files, as in my project, it isn't the best place, you'll need to find a more suitable location and method to access them.

Since last testing, I've upgraded to QV11 and can't now view .xls files directly (although it can download them) - so will probably be converting them to .mht files which work well.

Thanks flipside

I can get an xls to embed and work perfect through Qlikvew desktop although when I try to access it through the AccessPoint the file doesn't load. I thought there may have been a specific directory that needed to be used in order for the document to be retrived.

I'm also trying to achieve this. I can get JPG to view properly. But PDF, XLS and DOC files open externally.

I had this working in QV9. But now on QV11, it does not work. Any further ideas.

I cannot use Jens idea(about Google Docs viewer) as the files are stored on the internal network.

Thanks in advance
